A quick heads-up on a small change at checkout. From now on, Pay Monthly / Pay in Instalments is switched off by default on the TA1 Mac Store. Here's the thinking behind it.
Why we've done this
Every time an order goes through a Buy Now, Pay Monthly checkout, we're charged around 6% in fees. On a refurbished Mac that's a meaningful amount, and there are only two places it can go: we absorb it, or it ends up built into our prices.
The thing is, a high proportion of our orders are paid directly, with no instalment plan at all. If we kept those fees in the mix, the customers paying up front would effectively be covering the cost of a service they never used. We don't think that's fair on them.
So we've switched it off by default, which lets us do what we'd rather be doing anyway: offering the best possible price to everyone, with nothing hidden inside it.
