Which 13” generation should I buy?

For almost everyone: the M1 or M2 Touch Bar — faster, cooler and longer-lasting than any Intel 13”, and it runs the latest macOS 26 Tahoe. Choose Intel 2020 only if you specifically need Windows via Boot Camp.
M1 vs M2 — is the newer chip worth it?

They share the chassis and screen. The M2 is roughly 15% quicker and takes 24GB of memory, but the M1 is usually the better deal — in day-to-day work they feel identical. Buy on price and condition, not the chip.
How many external monitors can it drive?

One external display up to 6K on the M1/M2 models — that's the honest limitation of this family. If you need two or more, step up to a 14-inch Pro (two on Pro chips, up to four on Max).
How long does the battery really last?

Apple rates the 13” M1/M2 at up to 20 hours of video — the longest ever quoted on a Mac. Real mixed work is comfortably a full day and then some, and every TA1 Mac is guaranteed at 85%+ battery health with under 400 cycles.
What's the difference between Fair, Good and Excellent?
