Pick the 16-inch if it mostly lives on a desk — the biggest MacBook screen and a 100Wh battery, the largest you can legally fly with.

14” or 16” — which should I buy?

Pick the 14-inch if it travels with you — the same chips and ports at 1.6kg. Pick the 16-inch if it mostly lives on a desk — the bigger screen and the 100Wh battery. Performance is effectively identical, so it's a size and weight decision, not a power one.
M1 Pro vs M1 Max — what's the difference?

Both are seriously fast. The M1 Pro (16-core GPU, up to 32GB memory) is the sweet spot for most pro work — 4K editing, development, big Lightroom catalogues. The M1 Max doubles the graphics (24 or 32-core GPU), doubles the memory bandwidth and takes up to 64GB — worth it for heavy 3D, colour grading and larger local AI models. It also drives four external displays instead of two.
Is the 2021 generation still worth buying in 2026?

How long does the battery last — and what's special about the 16”?

The 14-inch carries a 70Wh battery rated for up to 17 hours of video playback; the 16-inch carries a 100Wh battery rated for up to 21 hours — the largest battery you can legally take on a plane. Both fast-charge over MagSafe 3 (roughly 50% in half an hour with the right charger), and every TA1 Mac is guaranteed at 85%+ battery health with under 400 charge cycles.
What ports do they have, and how many monitors can they drive?

Both sizes share the same ports: three Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C), full-size HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe 3 charging and a headphone jack — no dongles required. M1 Pro models drive up to two external displays at 6K/60Hz; M1 Max models drive up to four external displays.
